Role Overview
Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of wildlife and forest resource management policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate as well as national development imperatives; Coordinate the development and execution of conservation projects, including monitoring their progress and reporting on outcomes; Facilitate liaison, cooperation and coordination with all relevant Government Line Ministries, Departments, Parastatals, business community, civil society, development partners and the regional and international community on wildlife and forest resource management issues; Coordinate national programmes that promote the sustainable use and management of forest resources, including planning and implementation of forest management activities; Provide technical advice in the procurement of wildlife and forest resources management goods and service; Spearhead the mobilisation of resources and development of funding strategies/models for wildlife and forest resources management; Oversee the management of an integrated database on wildlife and forest resource management and the production of reports; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates.
Requirements & Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Forestry, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management or any other related qualification
• A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage
• At least eight (8) years experience in wildlife and forest resource management, of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director level or equivalent
• Proven experience in policy development, project implementation and coordination
• Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies etc
• Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams effectively
• In depth knowledge and familiarity with national and international environmental frameworks such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), CITES and Agenda 2030
• Strong technical understanding of Wildlife and Forest Resource Management, Community engagements and broader biodiversity conservation
• Ability in overseeing wildlife forestry and biodiversity surveys(EIAs)
• Ability to interpret findings and apply them to decision making process
• Ability to employ ICTs in wildlife and forest resource management programmes and related decision areas.
