Full-time Ref: A/GEN/13 Vacancy No: 14 Deputy Director, Forest Conservation Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Harare, Zimbabwe Application Deadline June 26, 2026 Sign in to Apply Role Overview Contribute to the development and implementation of forestry conservation policies, regulations and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Coordinate the development of frameworks for the establishment, maintenance, improvement and renewal of plantations and forest nurseries; Superintend over the conduct of research and investigations into matters pertaining to forestry and forests products; Advocate for the protection and conservation of forestry species as maybe gazetted in the enabling legislation; Develop risk-mitigation plans for issues such as illegal logging, land conflict or natural disasters and coordinate rapid response when needed; Provide technical advice in the design of flagship projects such as reforestation, community-based forest management and protected area expansion; Establish robust monitoring systems that track ecological outcomes, such as forest cover change, wildlife sightings and water quality; Collaborate with other government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to align policies, share best practices, and leverage resources in forestry conservation initiatives; Contribute to the development of budgets and funding strategies for forestry initiatives; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates. Requirements & Qualifications • A degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or any related field • A relevant Master’s degree is an added advantage • At least six (6) years relevant experience in the Natural Resources Officer grade or equivalent • An understanding of reforestation, protected-area management and community-based forestry • Knowledge of forestry conservation principles, including woodland management, inventories and tree breeding • Proficiency in conducting environmental impact assessments(EIAs) to guide decision making in natural resource projects • Expertise in sustainable forestry management, including afforestation, reforestation and forest health monitoring • Familiarity with forest related climate mitigation strategies such as carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration • Technical knowledge of sustainable resource management practices • Data analysis and monitoring skills • Strategic leadership skills • In-depth knowledge of national forestry laws and international conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity • A collaborative mind-set for building partnerships across Government, NGO’s, private sector and local communities • Ability to employ ICTs in forest conservation programmes and related decision areas. Requirements
