Full-time Ref: A/GEN/13 Vacancy No: 13 Deputy Director, Biodiversity Conservation Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Harare, Zimbabwe Application Deadline June 26, 2026 Sign in to Apply Role Overview Participate in the formulation, implementation and review of biodiversity conservation policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Coordinate biodiversity conservation programs, ensuring they are implemented effectively to protect ecosystems and promote sustainable use of natural resources; Facilitate research on biodiversity issues, analyse environmental impacts and conduct site inspections to monitor conservation efforts; Develop frameworks to enhance adherence to environmental laws and regulations and oversee conservation measures to protect biodiversity; Collaborate with other government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to align policies, share best practices, and leverage resources in biodiversity conservation initiatives; Develop initiatives that promote investments in biodiversity as a contributor to the national economy; Contribute to the development of budgets and funding strategies for biodiversity conservation initiatives; Manage an integrated database on biodiversity conservation and the production of reports; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates. Requirements & Qualifications • A Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Forestry or any other related qualification • A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage • At least six (6) years’ experience in wildlife and forest resource management at Officer Level or equivalent grade • Proven experience in policy development, project implementation and coordination • Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies etc • Knowledge of national development imperatives • Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams effectively • Deep understanding of natural capital accounting frameworks, bio trade, access and benefit sharing and bio diversity economy issues • Familiarity with national and international environmental frameworks such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), CITES, Nagoya Protocol and Agenda 2030 • Technical understanding of Wildlife and Forest Resource Management, Community engagements and broader biodiversity conservation • Proficiency in conducting environmental impact assesments to guide decision making in bio diversity projects • Knowledge of sustainable resource management practices, promoting a balance between bio diversity conservation and socio economic needs • Ability in overseeing wildlife forestry and biodiversity surveys (EIAs) • Ability to interpret findings and apply them to decision making process • Report writing skills • Ability to employ ICTs in wildlife and forest resource management programmes and related decision areas. Requirements
