Deputy Director, Chemicals Management

Full-time Ref: A/GEN/13 Vacancy No: 15 Deputy Director, Chemicals Management Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Harare, Zimbabwe Application Deadline June 26, 2026 Sign in to Apply Role Overview Contribute to the development of chemicals management policies and strategies in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Promote education, training and awareness as well as communication and advocacy on sustainable chemical management and its impact on the environment; Superintend over the conduct of risk assessments and mitigation measures to ensure a chemical-hazardous free environment; Develop plans for the segregation, treatment and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with environmental laws and regulations; Collaborate with other government agencies, international organizations, and civil society groups to align policies, share best practices in chemical management initiatives and integration of green-chemistry principles; Coordinate research on chemicals management in line with regional and international best practices and make recommendations where necessary; Oversee the preparation of periodic environmental performance reports including chemical usage, emissions and waste metrics; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates. Requirements & Qualifications • A degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management or any other related field • A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage • At least six (6) years relevant experience in the Environmental Officer grade or equivalent • An understanding of the regulations and policies, Regional and International protocols and Conventions on Environment Management issues • Experience in programme and project development, integrated planning and analysis, implementation, and management • Knowledge of local, national and international chemical regulations such as (OSHA, REACH) • An understanding of chemical technology, toxicology and emerging safer-chemistry technologies • Strategic leadership skills • Ability to communicate and network at all levels • Data management and reporting skills.
