Full-time Ref: A/GEN/14 Vacancy No: 18 Director, Climate Change Management Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Harare, Zimbabwe Application Deadline June 26, 2026 Sign in to Apply Role Overview Contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of climate change policies, strategies, guidelines and regulations in line with the Ministry’s strategic plan, mandate and national development imperatives; Develop frameworks to ensure that national and local level climate change mitigation plans, programmes and projects are informed by credible and climate change compliant diagnostics; Provide technical guidance in the implementation of the country’s Climate Change Policy and response strategy as well as the country’s global climate change commitments; Manage national climate change response, ensuring that sustainable solutions to the climate change challenges of the country are addressed at all levels of society and across all sectors of the economy; Coordinate national programmes that promote growth of green strategies, low carbon development and other related climate changes challenges for an effective National Climate Change Response; Manage the development of climate change mitigation tools through the analysis and synthesis of data, information, results and other new initiatives and codified knowledge products; Facilitate liaison, cooperation and coordination with all relevant Government Line Ministries, Departments, Parastatals, business community, civil society, development partners and the regional and international community on climate change management issues; Participate in the mobilisation of resources and development of funding strategies/models for climate change management and sustainable development; Oversee the management of an integrated database on climate change programmes and the production of reports; Supervise, coach and counsel subordinates. Requirements & Qualifications • A degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change or equivalent • A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage • Certification and/or licensing with a relevant professional accrediting organization is a distinct advantage • At least eight (8) years relevant experience in climate change and management sector, of which two (2) years must be at Deputy Director Level • Proficiency in understanding international agreements such as the Paris Agreement, the UNFCCC, and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer • Knowledge of climate science, adaptation strategies, and mitigation techniques to address climate challenges • Knowledge of sustainable development and climate change financing concepts and instruments • Experience in integrating climate change considerations into broader environmental, social, and economic development plans • Strong analytical skills to evaluate climate risks and vulnerabilities, using tools like GIS and climate models • Ability to interpret data to guide decision-making and measure the effectiveness of climate initiatives • Sound knowledge of current National Development policies, Programmes and Priorities and to make decisions that align with strategy, vision, and mission • Extensive experience with programme and project development, integrated planning and analysis, implementation, and management • Proven track record of resource mobilization experience • Ability to communicate and network with a broad spectrum of stakeholders • Ability to employ information communication technology in climate change management programmes. Requirements
