The Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law at the
International Institute of Humanitarian Law
(IIHL) focuses on capacity-building and knowledge enhancement for professionals working with refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), stateless individuals, and migrants.
The IIHL, established in 1970 in Sanremo, Italy, is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to training and dialogue in international humanitarian law, human rights, and refugee law.
With consultative and participatory statuses at major international bodies like ECOSOC, the Council of Europe, UNHCR, and IOM, the Institute promotes global cooperation and knowledge exchange in the protection sector.
The Project Assistant (Online Learning Assistant) will support the planning, organization, and delivery of online courses and initiatives within the Department.
Working closely with Course Coordinators, the role involves managing online platforms, assisting with research and content creation, providing technical support, and ensuring smooth execution of educational programs aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of professionals involved in refugee and migration protection.
• Assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and following up on courses and initiatives
• Contribute to the development, updating, and management of the Online Learning Platform
• Instruct facilitators and participants on online learning tools such as Zoom for Education, Mentimeter, and Moodle
• Support in designing interactive modules and didactic materials, including PowerPoint presentations and infographics
• Conduct research and prepare reports on global refugee, IDP, statelessness, and migration issues
• Maintain correspondence with participants before, during, and after courses
• Support translations of course content and communications as needed
• Update databases for reporting purposes post-course completion
• Assist with graphic design and digital content creation using Canva, Articulate 360, and other tools
• Support in designing new courses and updating existing ones with innovative methodologies
• Perform other relevant tasks assigned by the Department’s coordinators
• University degree in social sciences, educational science, digital learning, graphic design, or instructional design
• Fluency in English and a second language
• Experience in organizing online courses and in-person events
• Knowledge of digital communication platforms including Canva, Moodle, Zoom for Education, and Articulate 360
• Strong graphic design skills
• Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in an international environment
• Experience in digital content creation (photography, videography, editing)
• Knowledge of additional UN languages
• Background in instructional design and adult learning methodologies
• Personal or professional experience related to displacement or statelessness
• Knowledge of international law or protection issues
• Motivation to work supporting refugees, IDPs, and vulnerable groups
